We’ll explore the many varied ingredients and spices of haroset plus fun ways to spice up your seder. \nUPDATE: Our presenter will be Bonnie S. Benwick! Bonnie will demo the charoset recipes originally planned by Chef Susan Barocas. Bonnie worked as a journalist in the DMV for four decades\, much of which was spent at The Washington Post. During her Food section tenure\, she wrote the “Dinner in Minutes” column and other recipe-related features\, and ran the test kitchen. She edited The Washington Post Cookbook: Readers’ Favorite Recipes (2013). As a freelance editor and recipe tester\, Bonnie is now involved in cookbook production\, and teaches classes at the Hill Center (Capitol Hill). She also serves as honorary chair of Tzedek DC’s annual Eat Well Do Justice chefs’ competition\, and co-chairs the Hesed Cooking committee at Adas Israel. \nPlus\, have you ever wondered what makes wine Kosher for Passover? Our wine expert\, Shoshana Danon\, will answer all your questions and introduce us to the wide world of Passover wines including how the choices grew from traditional Manischewitz options to the vast variety of Passover wines today.  Shoshana Danon is a WSET Level 3 certified wine consultant for KosherWine.com — an advanced level qualification for professionals working in the wine industry. \nWe will have an opportunity to sample both 4-5 haroset recipes and Kosher for Passover wines. SUMMARY:TEM Shabbat Services
DESCRIPTION:The Traditional Egalitarian Minyan (TEM) is a warm\, spirited service\, committed to participatory worship. It meets in the Gewirz Beit Am every Shabbat morning and on some holidays at 9:30 a.m. Led by volunteers with the occasional assistance of Adas clergy\, the TEM service offers a full P’sukei D’Zimrah (introductory Psalms)\, Shacharit\, Torah service (starting around 10:20 a.m.) and Musaf. We read the entire weekly Torah portion\, and a D’var Torah is shared every week by a member of the TEM community. Our service ends around the same time as Adas’s Smith Sanctuary service\, and we will join the the congregational Kiddush once it resumes following the pandemic.

SUMMARY:Shabbat Smith Service
DESCRIPTION:Click Here To Livestream \nShabbat morning services in the Charles E. Smith Sanctuary\, the synagogue’s largest worship space\, are led by our inspiring Rabbis and Cantor. The service includes a D’var Torah and sermon by the Rabbi and often includes participation by members and B’nai Mitzvah. \n\nWith sermon by Tammy Gottlieb: “Let Me Hear Thy Voice”A leading Israeli activist shares stories from her time fighting for democracy and equality in Israel\, and the important role American Jews have to play in promoting democracy and pluralism in the Jewish state.  \n\nTammy Gottlieb is the Vice Chairwoman of Women of the Wall which fights for the right of women from all denominations to pray according to their custom at the Kotel. Tammy is also a member of the World Zionist Organization Executive representing the global Masorti/Conservative Movement as well as Director of Signing Anew\, an Israeli NGO that supports social action organizations that work to promote the democratic values espoused in Israel’s Declaration of Independence.  \n\nTammy also serves on the governing body of the WZO’s Hostages and Hostage Families Directorate\, which oversees the implementation of official Israeli government programs serving returned hostages and hostages’ families. Throughout her entire career\, Tammy has worked to shape a Jewish and democratic Israel that’s a welcoming home for every Jew. Raised and educated in a Masorti congregation in Rehovot\, Tammy served as a combat soldier in the IDF’s Caracal Battalion back when few women joined combat units. She then worked as a senior manager in the Masorti Movement’s NOAM youth group as well as a senior executive with the Masorti Movement in Israel.
