SUMMARY:TEM Shabbat Services
DESCRIPTION:The Traditional Egalitarian Minyan (TEM) is a warm\, spirited service\, committed to participatory worship. It meets in the Gewirz Beit Am every Shabbat morning and on some holidays at 9:30 a.m. Led by volunteers with the occasional assistance of Adas clergy\, the TEM service offers a full P’sukei D’Zimrah (introductory Psalms)\, Shacharit\, Torah service (starting around 10:20 a.m.) and Musaf. We read the entire weekly Torah portion\, and a D’var Torah is shared every week by a member of the TEM community. Our service ends around the same time as Adas’s Smith Sanctuary service\, and we will join the the congregational Kiddush once it resumes following the pandemic.

DESCRIPTION:Dr. Sarah Wolf \n“The Stories that Shaped the Beit Midrash” \nShabbat Afternoon\, February 7th at 1pm \nThe yeshiva is central to how we think about “serious” Jewish learning. Yet this format for study was not always part of Jewish life. The yeshiva\, or rabbinic academy\, emerged at a specific time and place\, in the Persian Empire at the close of the Talmudic period. And\, as we will learn\, stories and storytelling were at the heart of its rise. The talk will primarily focus on the connection between stories and study at the time of the Talmud\, but we will also explore the lasting cultural legacy of the rabbinic academy and consider the role of stories in forging new paths for Jewish study culture today. \nDr. Sarah Wolf is Assistant Professor of Talmud and Rabbinics at the Jewish Theological Seminary. She teaches\, writes\, and speaks about emotion\, law\, gender\, community\, and the imaginary in rabbinic texts. She lives in the Washington Heights neighborhood of Manhattan.

DESCRIPTION:Repro Shabbat 2026: \nShira Zemel is the director of the National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW)’s abortion access campaign\, the coordinated Jewish movement for reproductive health\, rights\, and justice. Shira has led this work since before the fall of Roe v. Wade\, in preparation for the Dobbs decision\, helping guide the Jewish community through the rapid and devastating shifts in abortion access nationwide. \nIn this role\, Shira launched the Jewish Fund for Abortion Access\, creating a national Jewish communal response to fund the complex patchwork of care patients need in a post-Roe landscape. She activates and mobilizes Jewish leaders and communities to take action for abortion access\, trains clergy and lay leaders to bring Jewish values into the public square\, and leads one of the largest faith-based abortion access efforts in the country. \nShira serves as president of the ARCH board\, a local abortion fund serving patients in northern Virginia. SUMMARY:TEM Shabbat Services
DESCRIPTION:The Traditional Egalitarian Minyan (TEM) is a warm\, spirited service\, committed to participatory worship. It meets in the Gewirz Beit Am every Shabbat morning and on some holidays at 9:30 a.m. Led by volunteers with the occasional assistance of Adas clergy\, the TEM service offers a full P’sukei D’Zimrah (introductory Psalms)\, Shacharit\, Torah service (starting around 10:20 a.m.) and Musaf. We read the entire weekly Torah portion\, and a D’var Torah is shared every week by a member of the TEM community. Our service ends around the same time as Adas’s Smith Sanctuary service\, and we will join the the congregational Kiddush once it resumes following the pandemic.
